NYC Water Ways

Hello! I am doing a photo/video project exploring the 520 miles of coast line in NYC and looking to meet people along the way!

By foot. By packraft. By Bike, By small boats, bigger boats. However I can.

I want to see how people experience the water, the parks, public access points, marshes, working waterfronts, hidden beaches, fishing spots, ferry docks, and the spaces in between. I’ll be looking at the environmental realities tied to these waterways — sewage overflow, pollution, climate resilience, and the long history of industry that shaped these shores. At the same time, there are people working to reimagine what access to water could look like in New York.Floating pools. Restored wetlands. Expanded public waterfronts. Cleaner rivers. More space for people.I’ll be talking with the people making that happen —
activists, planners, paddlers, scientists, artists, and everyday New Yorkers who have a connection to the water in one way or another. This project is about access.
About infrastructure. About nature inside the largest city in America and about seeing New York from its edges.

Let me know if you know someone in NY with a specific tie to the water!
