Travel to Italy and Switzerland
Hey guys!
We’ll be traveling to Europe for the first time as a group of 6–10 people, and we’re currently planning our trip for around August/September since we’ve heard it’s a great time to visit Italy weather-wise.
Our main idea is to spend around 10–15 days traveling, focusing mostly on Italy, with a short stop in Switzerland for about 2 days.
To clarify, Switzerland would mainly be a quick experience for skiing and riding the famous panoramic trains.
We currently have 3 possible plans:
Plan A
- Fly into Milan and spend 2 days exploring the city.
- After that, head straight to Switzerland, where we’d like to spend around 2 days in Zermatt or another similar destination (recommendations are welcome!).
- Then return to Italy, trying to visit Portofino, Venice, Florence, and Rome.
Plan B
- Fly directly into Rome and stay there for 3–4 days, since it’s the city we’re most excited about considering everything it offers.
- Then travel north through Florence, Genoa/Bologna, Milan, do a day trip to Venice, and finally spend 2 days in Switzerland (Zermatt or another destination).
Plan C
- Fly directly to Geneva, spend 2 days in Switzerland visiting places like Zermatt or St. Moritz, and then head to Italy following something similar to Plan A.
We’d really appreciate tips about:
• Affordable places to stay in both Italy and Switzerland that are still well-located for visiting the main attractions.
• Whether it’s better to stay in one central location and do day trips, or move around and change hotels/Airbnbs every few days.
• The best and most affordable ways to travel around Italy and Switzerland.
• Whether hotels or Airbnbs are usually the better option for this kind of trip.
Extra note: If focusing more on Italy makes more sense, we’d also love recommendations on how to include the Amalfi Coast in the itinerary!
Thanks in advance for any tips and recommendations!
We’re open to absolutely any suggestions, travel materials, guides, or advice that could help us plan an amazing trip.
Also, if we’re being unrealistic about the number of days and destinations, please feel free to give us an honest perspective about what’s actually doable.
Many thanks!!
