Eliquis dosing - advice needed!

Hi all, thanks so much for your answers on my previous posts. I was prescribed eliquis after a DVT and small PE diagnoses. I was instructed to take 5mg twice daily for 7 days then move to once daily afterwards. I am supposed to start the lower dose tomorrow, however I am reading you should NEVER take it only once a day because it is effective for 12 hours and this is really dangerous… I am sort of freaking out because I have no guidance on this, my prescription was from the ER, I can’t get into a hematologist for over a month, and can’t see my primary for a week. What should I do??

Edit: I messed up. I should have been taking two pills twice daily the first week and then one pill twice daily after that. The pharmacist told me two a day then one a day and I just didn’t read the bottle right after that. I called the ER doctor and he told me to just start the 7 day loading dose now but I’m freaking out that I’ve made things worse or put myself in danger. This whole thing has been my nightmare.

Pulmonary embolism following DVT

Hi everyone,

I posted a few days ago following my DVT diagnoses and everyone was so helpful. Yesterday I was experiencing some chest tightness and some shortness of breath so I went back to the ER. They did ekg, blood testing, x rays and ct of chest. They said I was fine and could go home. This morning I get a call from the ER that said the radiologist read the report and I actually do have a small pulmonary embolism. However, they said they’d just keep treating it with the blood thinners and I only needed to come back if my symptoms were severe. I definitely feel chest pain and shortness of breath, but it’s not severe pain and I can breathe. Is this the right protocol, or should I be in the hospital receiving treatment? From everything I’ve read, an embolism is very serious and usually requires a hospital stay?? I’m very worried

Hi everyone. I’m 29 f and was admitted to the ER today with a blood clot in my left leg. I hurt my ankle and was diagnosed with peroneal tendonitis and have been in a walker boot on rest as much as possible for one week. I started to get a deep very painful ache in my whole calf two nights ago. My orthopedic had me do an emergency ultrasound that showed acute blood clot in my left leg. It also showed some chronic blood clots in a superficial vein in my left leg. I have been on a combination birth control pill for years and the ER doctor said this must have caused the chronic clots and maybe contributed to the acute one. The ER doctor prescribed me eliquis and I have a follow up ticket with the hematologist. I am very panicked about all of this and have a few questions for the community:

- the doctor seemed to think this was more due to birth control, but since it happened one week into my immobilization for my ankle, I feel like that is what most likely caused it? Should I have been prescribed a blood thinner when given the instructions to immobilize? Also, they have said it’s okay to keep using the boot for my ankle now that I’m on treatment, but isn’t it risky to not move around with the clot?
- the ER was unclear about compression socks, and they didn’t prescribe them but did send me home with a flyer for how to use them. Should i be using them and if so how often?
- can I drink alcohol on eliquis? I live in the city and going to the bar is my general weekend plan. I know this isn’t a top priority, but I’m hoping this doesn’t ruin my summer
- I have two international trips planned in July…. Will they still be possible?
- are there any restrictions I should consider right now?
- how long after treatment should calf ache go away?
- should I still be worried about a pulmonary embolism?

If anyone has similar experiences I’d love to hear them. Thanks so much for your responses in advance

Hi Reddit, I was just diagnosed by an orthopedic with peroneal tendonitis. I am super active and do power yoga about 6 times a week. For about two weeks i noticed some pain in my left ankle but was able to ice after workouts and continue on as normal. This weekend i helped a friend move and it got really bad - sharp pain by left ankle bone with every step and developed a bad limp. Some pain running underfoot intermittently as well. I saw the ortho yesterday and x rays were clear. She gave me a walking boot and said to wear it for two weeks and I will likely be fine and able to return to exercise and walking after that. She said she wasn’t ready to refer to PT yet either, wants to see how the 2 weeks immobilizing goes and is pretty confident I’ll be good after that. The boot is helping ease walking but I am still having pain with stepping on that foot. Everything I’m reading here makes me think my doctor is way too optimistic and I’m worried I’ll be dealing with this for much longer? I am very depressed thinking about not being able to do my yoga routine for months potentially. Any thoughts on my doctors recommendations, should I get a second opinion, is recovery in just a few weeks possible? Thanks.
