Changed status from H4 to F1 in the US, went to New Delhi for stamping, got 214(b) after 221(g) — now stuck in India

Hi everyone,

I really need some advice because I honestly feel stuck right now.

I am currently in India. I was previously in the US on H4 status and changed my status to F1 while staying in the US. I am currently in my 3rd semester of a fully funded Master’s program.

I came to India in December 2025 because of a family medical emergency and also to get my F1 visa stamped. My visa interview was at the US Embassy in New Delhi on February 6, 2026.

During the interview, the officer asked:

  • about my course,
  • my program start date,
  • when I will graduate,
  • and how I received my assistantship/funding.

I explained everything properly. My Master’s is fully funded with an assistantship.

Then the officer told me they were refusing the visa temporarily for administrative processing to review my social media. He even said “congratulations,” which made me think everything was okay.

My social media is very minimal. I rarely use it. My LinkedIn mostly contains conference posts and academic/professional updates.

I received a 221(g), but later when I collected my passport, I saw that the visa was refused under 214(b).

Now I am stuck in India while my studies and internship are being affected.

I received a summer internship offer from a top MNC company in the US, and the internship is also a part of my coursework/program requirements. My original internship start date was May 26, but thankfully they extended it to June 16, 2026. However, I still cannot get any normal/emergency visa appointment slots despite trying constantly.

I also received an email from the international office at my university saying that if I am unable to return to the US before the Fall semester starts, they may terminate my SEVIS record.

I emailed the embassy with all supporting documents (around 10 documents including internship letters, university documents, funding proof, SEVIS-related communication, etc.). Their response was basically:

“We are unable to comment on date openings. It is first come, first served. Please monitor the website.”

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore.

I am paying rent in the US and also paying car EMI while sitting in India. If I cannot return soon, I may lose my internship opportunity, face SEVIS termination, and delay or affect my graduation. And, I do not know how I am gonna pay my rent and car EMI.

I feel mentally exhausted and financially trapped right now.

Has anyone gone through something similar after changing from H4 to F1 inside the US and then going for visa stamping in India?

Should I:

  • email the embassy again in the first week of June?

Any advice or suggestions would really help.

Thank you.

In India, has any rejected F1 applicant for 2026 gotten a new visa appointment date yet?

Genuine question — has anyone in India whose F1 visa got rejected for 2026 received a new appointment date yet? If yes, please share your consulate and how long it took. Please answer honestly.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently looking for a maid for my 3 BHK apartment in Balaji Nagar Colony, Samne Ghat. I mainly need help with regular cleaning and doing dishes.

If someone is also able to cook, that would be a big plus, but not mandatory.

If anyone has any leads or knows someone reliable and honest, please let me know. I would really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, I’m in a really stressful situation and would appreciate any advice.

I had my F-1 visa interview on Feb 6, 2026 in DELHI, INDIA. During the interview, I was told my case would go through administrative processing for social media review and that it looked likely to be approved—but when I got my passport back on Feb 17, it was refused under 214(b).

Since then, I’ve been trying to book a new appointment, but I can’t see any available slots at all (while others seem to be able to). Not sure if this is a system issue or something specific to my case.

Some context: I’m about to complete my 3rd semester, and I changed my status from H4 to F1 while I was in the U.S. I already have an F1 approval notice from USCIS, so I think I just need the visa stamp.

I had to come to India due to a family emergency—my husband was hospitalized and sadly passed away. Because of that, my university allowed me to continue remotely, but I must return to the U.S. for Fall 2026 (final semester). I also have an internship starting May 26 with top MNC, which is important for my program.

My university said if I can’t return in Fall, my SEVIS record could be terminated and I’d have to start over with a new visa/I-20.

Given all this:

  • Should I email the embassy/consulate about the appointment issue?
  • Has anyone faced not seeing slots after a 214(b)?
  • Am I eligible for an emergency appointment in this situation?
  • If yes, does anyone know the correct email/contact for the U.S. embassy?

Thanks in advance 🙏
