Hi, my phone doesn't allow for esims, even though it's fairly new.

I'm traveling to Mexico soon, flying in to Cancun and traveling from there. Does anyone have recent experience with buying and activating a physical simcard as a tourist?

It used to be very easy when I was in Mexico a couple of years ago, but I read that they've changed the registration rules beginning of this year and that it's been very difficult or impossible for tourists to get a simcard with data, but most reports I've read are ca 2 months old.
