MSFS 2020 “Melted Buildings” / Poor Photogrammetry — Looking for Advanced Fixes Beyond the Usual LOD, Cache, and Server Advice
I’m trying to troubleshoot the melted building / low-detail photogrammetry issue in MSFS 2020, but I’m specifically looking for advanced or less commonly discussed fixes.
I’ve already gone through the usual basic suggestions:
- Adjusting Terrain LOD / Object LOD
- Checking whether Bing Data World Graphics and Photogrammetry are enabled
- Testing different rolling cache sizes and cache on/off
- Assuming it’s just a Microsoft server issue
- Internet speed checks and the usual “restart the sim/router” type advice
I’m on a very fast Google Fiber connection, and this issue can still show up even when my connection itself is not struggling. I’ve also seen people mention there may be deeper fixes or system/network-side changes that helped them, but those discussions are usually scattered and vague.
I’m looking for people who have actually improved or solved this through things like:
- Windows or network adapter settings
- DNS / IPv6 / routing-related changes
- MSFS config file tweaks
- Rolling cache behavior on high-speed connections
- Bandwidth streaming behavior or hidden sim-side limitations
- Any non-obvious fixes that made photogrammetry and distant building detail load more consistently
I’m not looking for the entry-level checklist unless there’s a very specific reason one of those settings matters in a less obvious way. I’m trying to figure out what experienced users have found that actually moves the needle.
Has anyone dealt with persistent melted buildings in MSFS 2020 and found a real advanced fix or improvement?
