Hello tree folk. First time, long time here.

Just bought this cabin in the woods. We want to build out the grade off the side to we can eventually have a place to grill, hang out, hot tub etc. initially I was going to cut down this black cherry tree but the more I look at it, it’s too nice of a tree to lose. You can see that they already built up to the tree when they built the house. My question is, would building up the other side harm the tree at all? We would basically end up with a horseshoe shaped hill around the tree, leaving the far side open for proper drainage.

We won’t be changing the grading shown in the picture, basically just extending around the tree so we can build out in the far side of the tree

Thanks in advance
