Sharing my other project.

Just some musings from OP.

This one is done in a different style, and one that I love most. It's also the style I started drawing, monochrome with pencil. I always thought this style doesn't meet manga industry standards, so I learned inking, rendering and whatnot (you can see that style in my Pokemon post from few days ago), but when I saw Made in Abyss looks somewhat similar, I'm inspired to pursue my own style of manga.

Why is my not-so-great sketch doing better than my great sketch? Something I'm missing?

Recently, I posted two artwork from my sketchpad on DeviantArt.

The first one is a close up face shot of my OC Alexandria. I feel like it wasn't a good work, the proportion were somewhat off. So I made a second sketch of my other OC Natalie, this time using a pose reference from Pinterest. I liked the Natalie sketch very much.

But, to my surprise, I got more likes on my Alexandria sketch than Natalie. This isn't the first time I met this. Artwork #3, a close up of Natalie, did better than artwork #4, a smaller portrait of Natalie.

Why is that? Is there something about close up face shots that I don't know about?

Bad taste or wrong audience?

I recently uploaded my reverse Isekai fanfic manga (in webtoon format) onto a pokemon subreddit. The stats are: 4.8k views, 3 comments saying they like it and would read it, but 38% upvote ratio. The post currently has 0 upvotes.

I'm wondering is it because there's nudity on the first page? Or it is because I'm showing it to the wrong audience?

Seeing the response, I thought the problem was the first 2 pages, so I started to tone it down a bit, but that... Kinda kills my original vision for the project. So, I ask: wrong audience or my manga was distasteful?

Portrait Sketch: Natalie (OC)

Portrait of Natalie Birdsong in Heraldry 2: The Whiteroc and Blacklion.

Natalie made her debut in Heraldry: Sapphire Among Vines as the perky, cheerful girl who pulled Herald out of depression. Now, five years later, she joins Herald on his journey to Rosenbrunn in Weissland.

Just sharing my storyboard of sorts

I want to make both novel and manga for my new story. I've looked up on how to make storyboards online, they look like a giant paper with boxes and some caption. Tried them... Felt weird... And I ended up with this instead.

Page 5 of my reverse Isekai pokemon fanfic. It started as an exercise to draw quadruplets, which evolved into a manga because of my overthinking.

Perspective practice.

Pov of looking up the tree. Thanks to Andrew Loomis' book, I was able to pull this off.

This is a scene from Chapter 2 of my light novel, Sapphire Among Vines. What do you think is happening based on this scene?

It was peaceful before. They're inside a room in the Pokemon center, looking out the window at the sunrise. Then her dark memory flashes, and she "breaks? Seizes? Freezes?" (Sorry, uncertain which is the proper term.)

This is still a draft, I'm still going through the various expressions. So far, I'm comfortable with this. But the question is does it show what she is going through?

I am working on a personal reverse Isekai fan-project. And I have gotten myself into a tricky.

In the bottom section of this sketch, I have my OCs Herald and Aria. They are in guest room of a Pokemon Center. They are 22 and 21 years old respectively, shrunken into pre-teen bodies like Ash and Serena, but retaining their memories. Being grown-up lovers, they had... You know. They'd been in a relationship for five years now.

So my question for discussion: Which is better? Herald go bare-chested with just briefs and Aria in a camisole and panties (like what lovers wear when together)? Or cover them up reasonably (in manga style)?

Personally, I'd go the grown up way. Just not aware of how the readers would react. I think fellow artists wouldn't mind, there are such things as MiA after all.

This is my intended cover art for the first act of my LN, Heraldry: Sapphire Among Vines. It shows Herald and Natalie, the two main leads, holding hands.

To Herald, Natalie was just the local village's girl who doesn't leave him alone. He didn't like her because he himself wanted to die and she smelled like she hadn't showered in a few days. But she kept coming, purring and rubbing her face against him, bringing him flowers and simply refused to leave him alone. Eventually, she brought him a potion from the village healer that restored his voice.

Finally, he let her in. But he didn't know that to Natalie, he wore the face of her dead brother who died two years ago from fever. It was that face gave him her, and also a home in her village.
