National Trust UK - Discrimination
This is a first time post for me. This is Albie, my 7 month old Rottie. He’s the most gentle and loving little boy ever, absolutely loves other dogs and can’t get enough of people. Today i had an encounter which has left me enraged and disgusted. Took him to a National Trust site today and we were sat down on a bench and Albie was sat beside us minding his own business chewing a stick, when a National Trust Ranger walks past us and stops to tell me that he feels intimidated by my dog because he’s an aggressive dog breed and is scaring not only him but the other people at the site. He said that I was out of order for bringing a Rottweiler to a place where there is elderly people and children. The ranger also said that one day when Albie gets older I need to be careful that he won’t kill me! Prior to this, all of the elderly people and children absolutely loved Albie and him being his usual self he sat and wagged his tail and let them pet him. This is the first time I’ve ever experienced discrimination and stereotyping towards my dog and I’m out right disgusted. Especially since my dog did absolutely nothing wrong.
*EDIT* - Thank you everyone for the replies! I’ll edit here as I did not get chance to reply to everybody. We did not break any of the rules at the National Trust we were simply sat enjoying the surroundings and Albie was on his lead the entire time. I asked the Ranger if I had a cockapoo would he be having this conversation with me and he said no it’s purely because I’ve brought an aggressive dog breed to the park. He then continued to say he is intimidated by his presence and I told him he’s not to have an opinion on a dog he knows nothing about. I’ve got his name and I’ll be writing a complaint to the National Trust
