Vivien Leigh in Gone with the Wind probably would’ve swept, imo. Her performance just feels completely undeniable considering how grand and incredible it is.

I’m kinda cheating with Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront since there were already a few precursors like the Globes and BAFTA, both of which he won, but I still think he probably would’ve swept a modern awards season too.

What other performances do you think would’ve swept the entire awards circuit if all the modern precursors existed back then?

Katharine Hepburn in Suddenly, Last Summer (1959), The Lion in Winter (1968), and Long Day's Journey Into Night (1962)

Katharine Hepburn is obviously terrific in comedies, but I've always had a stronger appreciation for her dramatic performances. What are your thoughts on her work in drama?
