Looking for a recommendation for my sister's new laptop!
LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
- 1500-2000 CAD. We live in Ontario.
- Are you open to refurbs/used?
- Absolutely.
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
- Form Factor: Regular Laptop recomends please. A balance between weight and power is preferred, as my sister is a student. She does not like the gaming laptops that have a rear 'chin', where the screen comes up not at the exact hinge point of the laptop, but inset around 1-2 inches.
- Build Quality: Medium to high, all plastic builds won't work here
- Performance: My sister would like to play more games from our steam library, but she won't need ultra high performance. She plays Minecraft, souls games, resident evil, etc.
- Battery Life: Important, a good battery is helpful at school.
- How important is weight and thinness to you?
- A balance is fine, more performance in battery and gaming means more weight generally.
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
- 14-15.6 inches
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
- She plays Minecraft, Souls games, Resident evil, etc. She may get into emulation at some point, but she won't need much for that.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
- See above. no high frame rate displays are required, 60hz is more than enough. A steady 60 in some games she wants to play, with 45-60 being fine in more demanding games
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
- A gaming laptop that looks nice is important to her. Lugging out a huge gamer brick in the classroom is not her style. Something older or refurb would be fine to match the price point.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
- None.
