A few days ago my wife woke up around midnight with unbearable chest pain, nausea, chills, and rapid heart rate. I took her to the ER assuming it was a heart issue. After an EKG, blood test, and CT scan they determined it was acid reflux and sent us home. We've scheduled a visit with her general doctor for next week.

Last night we had spaghetti for dinner and she was in intense pain again. We tried to keep her sitting upright, sipping water. Tums didn't help, Tylenol did nothing. From midnight to 5 am she was in intense pain, and there was nothing we could do.

She was able to finally fall asleep, but we can't do that again. How do we avoid it happening again before our next doctor visit, and what can we do to reduce symptoms if they do start again? What foods do we avoid? Are there any medicines or exercises that help?
