The Power of Belief and Denial?

This recent chapter has seemingly confirmed that Okarun is the Pinnochio curse bearer and that he may have Turbo Granny’s curse speed powers in some form.

Old posts on the subject of Okarun’s powers have argued that CSG sharing his knowledge of metronomes and bacteria synchronization was foreshadowing that Okarun’s body was altered by holding Turbo Granny’s powers for so long. And Okarun’s Olympic level athleticism gave credence to this theory.

The question is: why hasn’t Okarun’s Turbo Granny’s activated yet?

I have a few theories on this matter.

First, Okarun’s TG powers might have only been slowly developing, and early signs of it may be his greatly enhanced athleticism.

Second, the ogre club may have been given to Okarun through CSG to help draw out his powers. There’s speculation that Basho had disguised herself as Manjiro, gave the ogre club to Ken and has been overseeing and reporting his development to CSG.

Third, Okarun’s lying and self-deprecating attitude might be contributing to his powers remaining inactive. Chapter 85: The Power of Nessie, established how saying words with conviction and applying them to attacks allows the user to alter reality and enhance their power. Even after witnessing how much more athletic he is compared to his peers, Okarun doesn’t question it too deeply nor does he boast about it to the gang, even when Momo and Aira witness his abilities in astonishment. He just brushes it aside, or downplays his abilities in comparison to Momo and the others.

Fourth, even if Okarun does acknowledge there is something unusual about his new strength, he might not want to believe that having Turbo Granny’s powers changed him. Given the trauma and hardship he endured because of the curse, he might not want to go through something like that again. Okarun’s surprise after CSG told him about metronome and bacteria synchronization might suggest that he momentarily considered the possibility of him being altered, but is too deep in denial.

As I’ve stated a few times in the past, I believe Momo’s amensia was created intentionally to cause Okarun emotional turmoil and make him a suitable Pinocchio curse bearer. I also think CSG might be trying to forcibly draw out Okarun’s powers by putting him and his friends in jeopardy.

It was pointed out that the animal, Sea Lion also serves as wordplay for ‘I see you lyin.’ So, do you think Water Flea could stand for ‘want to flee?’ Seems to me the villain here is calling Okarun a liar and a coward. Or do water fleas have some other symbolism?
