The China Coast dinner roll was soft just like any other Chinese dinner roll, but had a somewhat crisp and greasy exterior that makes me think they were fried. They also had a sweet, almond flavor, which may have been a glaze that was brushed on before baking to create the crispness, rather than frying. It's probably been 30 years since I had one but the craving still hits, you know? Hopefully I'm remembering them right.
Over the years Google has failed me on this, and I don't trust their AI answer that probably isn't right anyway.
I could probably start with a regular Chinese dinner roll and experiment from there, but I'm hoping one of y'all has an actual recipe.
Thanks!!
