I know there's probably a nigh unending stream of posts here annoyed about self tapes. My issue is less with the idea of self tapes themselves & more the ridiculous overcomplicated technicalities of them & I wonder if anyone else can relate?
I've just spend my whole sunday after class working on a commercial self tape sent by my agent. Naturally it required a full body, horizontal shot & thus the rearranging of my entire living room, but that's ok because the brief was a lot of fun & enjoyable in the end. Hell I even enjoyed spending all night editing it to make sure it was done & ready to submit a whole day before the deadline.
What wasn't fun was trying to use the casting company's client site to upload. It takes me to a 5 page form where I have to provide the standard contract & conflict details including my social media & then when we finally get around to uploading the pictures? The site crashes.
Aight I guess I'm doing it again... no biggie.
"503 Service Unavailable No server is available to handle this request." It does this every time now.
Now I have to wait til morning to get a new link defeating the whole purpose of staying up late to upload ahead of time lmao. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I've had to deal with a casting company's janky upload links & of course there's "no other way of getting it to them.' What happened to a simple WeTransfer? I think every damn time I've had to use something other than WeTransfer, barring once, something goes wrong. Self tapes are frustrating enough without stuff like this. Actors are expected to have their shit together at a moments notice but they can't manage a working upload link?
Rant over, would love to hear anyone else's similar stories
