My dog needed an emergency splenectomy. During this he received a gastrotomy. I had two charges on my invoice “splenectomy add on” and “gastrotomy add on”. The final amount I was asked to pay (in addition to my 10k deposit) exceeded the estimate despite surgery going well and him being released day early, so I asked for a detailed invoice (not sure why I didn’t receive before being asked to pay). I inquired about multiple things but these two charges they admitted were both for the gastrotomy. They were each about 1/3 the total cost of the additional beyond deposit. They removed the duplicate charge but because it was listed two different ways by the same staff member this felt sort of slick. The invoice was not even finalized when I had arrived at the time they told me to pick him up. After a few days of thinking on it I asked for his complete records to corroborate the rest of the invoice. Was this unreasonable? It’s the only emergency vet in my area and he sees their cardiologist. I have not received the records.
