It’s been a long, long time since I served but when I was in Germany for a short deployment supporting prepping equipment returning from Reforger all the Germany based U.S. troops I talked with always tried to make staying in Germany part of them reup’ing.

I wonder if the sentiment is still the same that for some soldiers being stationed in Germany is a big perk of the job and makes staying in worth it.

Anyone think having less spaces available in Germany could affect retention at all?

I will say back then the Germans sure seemed to love U.S. troops. I remember having a very old gentleman who ran a pistol club bringing out a rack of beer and throwing down some church keys on our table and saying George (H.W.) Bush number one, Americans drink free. Which stood out as I was interrogated going in to make sure I wasn’t British who they clearly did not like.
