What kind of touchstone do you use? Have you seen a difference with different grits?

The company I work for has a couple stores, some that get burned on fake gold occasionally. My store never does, I think it’s because the 30 year old touchstone we use is a courser grit than the ones other stores have, so more material comes off to get though heavy plating.

I’ve tried doing research on testing stones sorted by roughness but I don’t see details, only qualitative names like “Arkansas stone”.

Has anyone tried using sharpening stones as a gold testing stone? Those can be ordered in different grits but I don’t know if they are acid impervious in the same way.
