Shower Layout Questions/Opinions

So I’m getting ready to finish sealing up my niche wall and want to nail this down while I can still adjust framing.

Posted two mockups, should be damn near accurate in scale. Left wall with shower head and trim, back wall, right wall with niche. 12x24 primary tiles and 48” back wall so that’s an easy layout. Planning on waterfalling a 16x48 on the shower head side, so that’s pretty straightforward as well. Using the same accent tile in the niche and that’s where things get weird. I’m laying out the niche to be two tiles tall so that parts easy. With the 50% offset layout, I get uneven vertical grout lines above and below the niche. With the stacked layout, I obviously end up with even vertical grout lines but they’re only about an inch from the right edge. I could kick the niche left an inch and make my life so easy, but then it will be off center compared to the drain and shower. I could shrink it two inches to keep it centered, but now I’m down to about a 13” wide niche which feels too narrow and the niche accent til wouldn’t match the other wall in width.

What would you guys do? Offset or stacked tiles? Shrink the niche or just stop overthinking it and send it?

Yes I check the tiles, they are flat and a 50% offset will work fine.

About to start my shower reno, using the Schluter Kerdi board system with a custom size niche. The niche backs up to an interior wall, so currently just studs and the backside of regular drywall.

My stupid question, and pretty sure I know the answer, is this: I know it’s typical to just glue a piece of Kerdi board to the drywall for the back of the niche, but is there any technique to adhere Kerdi membrane to the back instead to gain another ~1/2” of niche depth? Assuming all other banding/waterproofing is done per usual. Since it’s the brown/unprotected side of the drywall I assume it’s a no-go, but curiosity has gotten the better of me.
