I'm servicing my "winter" bike before putting it away, including changing the bottom bracket as it got a bit creaky.

As the photos show, the spacer tube is very deformed at one end.

The bearings were fitted straight and not cross threaded and came out easily enoug.

All was fine while riding (apart from the occasional creak and click, hence my changing them).

I estimate they've done about 3000 miles over the past two years. I didn't have any crashes or falls in that time.

I don't suppose it matters all that much as I'm changing them anyway but I'd be interested to know if anyone more knowledgeable than me has any ideas as to what would have caused it?
