Hey so I’m currently 17m and in my junior year of high school. Most of my life I’ve had plans of studying abroad and my future is looking really great, as in if I applied to universities in the USA I would probably get a decent amount of tuition in a decent school. But recently thoughts of enlisting in the military have been clouding my mind-to serve my country and become a “man” per se. I don’t think I would have much trouble in the military-at least bullying wise as I have martial arts experience and am pretty well built but I don’t think my parents would want me to enlist as they are scholars who heavily emphasize the importance of education and have been talking about the dangers of the military. I myself don’t really know if I should enlist-as I am very unsure about the future after the military, whether I would have the opportunity to study abroad or not, and I feel like I would feel very “behind” my friends who chose academics. What should I do? Is there anything that I am unaware of? and what’s the military really like? Am I just full of myself?
