Just got these gorgeous vegetable tanned leather Swedish Hasbeens and am unsure about treating them. I prefer worn-looking boots with a patina, in general, a distressed look. But these boots were an expensive (for me) splurge, and I want to be sure that I don't ruin them. The website says to treat them with olive oil to help preserve them, but it is not clear if that is before the first wear? Or later for maintenance. I can't wait for them to age, but I don't want them to be ruined. I have shoes in the same leather, but I bought them used. And I have used olive oil, as they recommend, but it seemed like it never really conditioned--just sat on the surface. Can anyone tell me how to best prevent ruining them, while working to break them in?
