Angry Customer Threatened to “Beat the Shit out of Me” and Was Waiting for Me in Parking Lot
Not sure if this is a good place to ask, but here’s what happened:
I’m a courier. A customer ordered a parcel and it was delivered to the wrong locked mailbox at their complex by one of our other couriers yesterday.
Rightfully, the customer was mad, but called the office 5 times to confirm that the parcel would be moved to the correct box. We were short staffed. I worked a double to cover the shift that would have dealt with the issue after completing my own work.
I moved the parcel to the correct box, and carried on with my day. Our supervisor informed the customer the package was moved.
Fast forward 2 hours, and I am arriving back at the office in my work truck. There’s a car I don’t recognize in the lot, and it is now after hours, so just me and them. I assumed it was the cleaners, as they come around the time I arrived back.
I open my truck door and the guy says “where’s my package”. I instantly know who he is now. I explain everything. That this isn’t my area, but I’m covering for a sick colleague, that the parcel was moved, etc etc. he tells me that I’m going to drive back with him get the parcel. Honestly, if he wasn’t being so agro, I probably would have. But he was being a dick, it’s was 7pm the day before Easter weekend, so I said I’m sorry, I can’t do that. I’ve already been working 12 hours and he can call the head office to file a complaint.
Dude LOSES it. Calls me every name you can think of, but mostly homophobic stuff. I tell him I’m not going to speak with him anymore, and he comes back with “oh yeah, you want me to beat the shit out of you?” And walks towards me, forcing me into a tiny space between my truck and the office wall. There’s a fence behind me so I can’t run. I hold my hand up and say “calm down” now mentally ready to fight back if I need to. He turns around and says “you’re fuckin following me to get that parcel you fucking faggot”. I took the chance to jump over to the building door and slide in since the door auto locks. This doesn’t sound that crazy maybe, but it was a super tense few moments. I was vibrating.
I hear him peel out in his truck.
Am I right to go to the police and put something on record? I think pressing charges is too much, but I want him trespassed from my workplace and ideally something that will keep him the fuck away. Is a restraining order a realistic option.
I’m also going to lose out on money as I won’t be able to do his route now without being nervous I’ll have to deal with this shit. What’s the best course of action?! TIA for any advice.
