I’ve just finished Richard Cross’s biography of Jimi Hendrix, and I find it genuinely painful to close the book. I’ve read many biographies, but this one affected me in a very specific way—especially the account of his poverty during childhood, which I had no real awareness of before.

There’s also something both tragic and almost strangely touching in the fact that he never seemed to find a stable person of trust and love, someone with whom he could truly rest away from the pressures and predatory nature of the music industry.

To soften the weight of it, I recorded a short video—a tribute song for him.
