Can PGWP holder in Canada apply for U.S. tourist visa interview in the Philippines instead?
Hi everyone,
I’m a Filipino citizen currently living in Calgary, Canada on a PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit). I’m planning to apply for a U.S. B1/B2 tourist visa.
I noticed that the wait times in Canada are very long (Calgary shows around 12 months), while the Philippines seems to have interview availability much sooner based on the U.S. visa wait time website.
I was wondering if it would be feasible for me to complete the interview in the Philippines instead of Canada because I am actually flying back home this December for a few weeks anyway.
Most of my current ties are actually in Canada now:
- full-time job
- house
- car
- dog
- daily life established here
I still have some ties in the Philippines as well, but much stronger/current ties in Canada.
Would applying/interviewing in the Philippines create any issues since I’m currently residing in Canada? Has anyone here done something similar as a temporary resident in another country?
Would it generally be better to:
- wait for a Canadian appointment, or
- interview in the Philippines for faster processing?
Thanks in advance!
