Long story short, I applied and got it for this summer (2 weeks each). My school doesn't have dedicated so I was looking at easy and chill electives for one month as I study for boards. Wondering if this elective is doable with level 2/step 2 prep?

If anyone has done it, can you speak on it? Thanks.

Edit: also wondering how it will look to residency apps, since I am not doing an away in July and would be doing this chill elective to focus on boards?

First away isn't til Aug.

Hi everyone, I'm applying neuro for match 2027. I was able to do 2 neuro electives during third year. The first elective was my first exposure to the field, and the attending was nice. On the last day, he had mentioned to reach out if I ever need anything. I asked for a letter and he said to just email him. I followed up a week later and he didn't respond. I followed up again a week after that, and he also did not respond. Finally, I followed up a third time about 2 months after the rotation completion and he also did not respond. I'm not sure if its a dead end at this point. His comments on my evals were pretty average so I'm not sure if that's how the letter will be.

From the second elective, I was able to build a good connection with the mentor and he offered to write me a letter without me asking. He also left some pretty strong comments on my evals and believe he will definitely be writing a strong letter.

I also did ask an IM program chair for a letter, and he said to go through his office secretary who has been unresponsive as well. Emailed multiple times (1-2 weeks apart) and no response, and the attending was pretty adamant that I go through her for the request so I don't think emailing him directly will be good. I think that letter will also be avg because I only worked with him for about 2 weeks and now its been months since that rotation. I reached out to the site coordinator and hoping she can provide some updates about the secretary like maybe they changed or something.

Now, I haven't really had any other meaningful interactions or attendings for other rotations besides those. I have aways scheduled in Aug and Sept. (finishing core rotations end of June and using July for dedicated) I think for Aug I can get one, but for Sept I'm not sure. Rotation starts Aug 31.

Any advice for those who have been in similar positions?
