Description

The region known as the Great Filter Zone was first identified during the initial Brazilian Army incursion into the Amazon Exclusion Zone in 1988, while advancing toward the presumed origin point of the Signal.

SP-001 structures begin appearing at heights of roughly 500 meters (1,640 feet). From elevated observation points, several formations exceeding one kilometer (0.62 miles) in height can be seen along the horizon.

Each structure consists of a massive basal formation supporting a large spherical body perforated by numerous cavities. Some of these openings are estimated to extend more than 200 meters (656 feet) inward. From these cavities emerge long filament-like appendages, which sweep the surrounding area near the base of the structure, collecting dead organic matter and biological residue.

Under specific atmospheric and environmental conditions, these filament structures have been observed extending vertically into the upper cloud layers. Long-range optical analysis suggests that, in rare cases, the fully extended appendages of larger SP-001 structures may surpass 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) in total height from ground level.

SP-001 entities are not considered aggressive. Monitoring teams and military personnel have been able to approach several of the structures at close range. However, no physical samples have ever been successfully recovered. The external plates covering the basal formations are extremely resistant; every tool or cutting device used in extraction attempts was either damaged or rendered inoperable.

Unlike most other entity classes, SP-001 does not produce loud vocalizations or low-frequency resonant emissions. Instead, it emits a faint, high-pitched sound that is almost imperceptible at a distance. Prolonged exposure to this sound has been associated with increased stress, fatigue, disorientation, and cognitive confusion among personnel operating in the area.

Due to their passive behavior, the F.N.P.A. was able to construct long-range monitoring towers near the perimeter of the Great Filter Zone. Advance of AB-088 entities observed by an F.N.P.A. patrol team - F.N.P.A. being the Portuguese acronym for Força Nacional de Proteção da Amazônia / Amazon National Protection Force - over the Purus River, in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, on 31/10/1996.

The entities were recorded moving toward the REIS-III radar system region, located near BR-319 km 300. REIS-III is a long-range monitoring and radar surveillance system used to detect anomalous activity inside and around the Amazon Exclusion Zone.

Description

Entity AB-088 is characterized by the emission of sounds similar to the buzzing of a mosquito, followed by a deep and resonant vocalization with strong echo characteristics.

As observed with most Skafo-class entities, the sounds emitted by the entity may cause nausea, disorientation, and mental confusion in humans exposed for prolonged periods.

AB-088 entities demonstrate extremely territorial behavior, attacking other entities, wild forest animals, and human structures. The only exception recorded so far involves Katargis-class entities (Katargis being another class of anomalous entity within this setting) toward which AB-088 has shown no direct hostility.

The entity possesses extraordinary physical resistance. Conventional weaponry causes little to no effective damage to its external shell. After prolonged saturation attacks conducted by the F.N.P.A. This map is part of a worldbuilding and cosmic horror project I've been developing. As a geopolitics enthusiast, I decided to explore how an anomalous event on a global scale could reshape borders, strategic doctrines, and regional security in an alternate Cold War.

Context Map:

It all begins on May 26, 1988, with the start of the Null Vortex Crisis. This crisis began with an emission of unknown origin at 1.420 GHz from the Amazon rainforest, causing a global collapse in communications and electrical infrastructure, disrupting terrestrial networks, satellites, orbital stations, and even lunar installations.

Today, six years after the phenomenon began, the area of ​​the emission is a physical 'blind spot': engines stop, electronics fail, and satellites can't register anything but dark spots and a constant storm system. In 1994, Brazil, which in this timeline is a global power, consolidated layered security in the region (exclusion, containment, and surveillance) to prevent foreign incursions and maintain total control over what remains of the region.

French Guiana had already been integrated into Brazil through a referendum during the French colonial crisis of the 20th century, becoming one of the first examples of territorial realignment in the region in this timeline.

The Soviet Union, acting diplomatically through Venezuela, and the United States/Europe began to pressure Brazil to allow international investigations into the phenomenon, as both accused Brazil of hiding some kind of secret weapon. Fearing an escalation, foreign incursions, and regional destabilization, Suriname and Essequibo requested autonomous integration into the Brazilian federation in 1992.
