As the title says, I feel overwhelmed and need advice.
Basically I got super into long distance running at the end of 2024 (19 yo), and pretty quickly lost my period (I did have very irregular periods as a teenager)
Anyway, first half of 2025 I stupidly decided that eating less and running more was a good idea (spoiler alert it was definitely not). This did work however, and I got faster at running and conveniently skinnier. I thought this was great and decided to ignore all the side effects like memory loss, losing hair, being cold all the time, thinking about food 24/7 lololol the list goes on
Second half of 2025 I somewhat continued this pattern, however I went overseas and being away from the toxic friend/family influences was very helpful, however I still tied my weight to my self worth. I did improve fueling somewhat, eating out, eating desserts, eating more (eg a protein shake after a run), but definitely still not enough as I had no period
Anyway, this year, I have decided I’ve finally had enough. Since January, my running performances have slowed significantly, and I now believe I am dealing with a bone stress injury (I’m thinking it’s femur related - I’ve been to two physios one says it is a hip flexor and one says it is back related, but I have my doubts)
I have also been to the GP and had my bloods done. My hormone levels are ‘normal’ apparently, but according to google they aren’t high enough for ovulation. I should also add I am not underweight and I estimate my BMI to be about 21-22 (Idk my exact weight), however, I was borderline underweight last year (no surprise)
Basically, I need advice for who I should see/how to approach this.
My current thought process is:
- Ring back the GP tmrw and ask for a referral to a sports doc regarding my leg injury
- Take the GPs recommended supplements (iron, zinc etc can’t hurt)
- Book a dietitian appointment (do I need to wait until I get an actual diagnosis for my leg first?)
Any advice is WELCOME PLS
I will do anything to fix this mess and feel good again and maybe even run again lol
