Finished DS1 and now I'm playing DS2 for the first time and have just learned about how you lose a chunk of health when you die as a hollow and this has immediately made me not really wanna try anything incase I die again and lose more health, any tips?

I've spoken to patches in tomb of the giant's been kicked into the hole, defeated Nito and exhausted all his dialogue but he still won't move to Firelink Shrine, did me missing him in the catacombs make it so he can't move to Firelink since he never asked me if I was a cleric?
