We had a cardinal build a nest in one of our rose bushes. I was worried about them being safe there bc it’s closer to the ground. But they seemed fine. Eggs hatched, we got sight of the tiny baby birds. I went out this morning and saw a large piece of the nest on the ground. I was afraid to look. There wasn’t ANYTHING in the nest and there is no way those babies were able to fly. I’m so seriously heartbroken. I cried my heart out. My husband was sympathetic but his farmer boy heart pointed out that this is the way of nature and the parents were already focused on the next thing. Well I’m still very sad. I was wondering if building a nesting platform would attract the cardinals to a safer spot where they can’t get savaged by predator. I know they don’t like to nest in small spaces but I’d love to give them a place that would be harder to get to…especially with a slinky barrier to contend with!! I don’t want them rebuild in that same spot!!

Does anyone have experience with nesting boxes or platforms?
