Free Personal Statement Editing from r/Predental (2026)

PUT YOUR REDDIT USERNAME AND YOUR EMAIL AT THE END OF THE PERSONAL STATEMENT. PLEASE FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS WITHIN, OR WE CAN'T RETURN YOUR STATEMENT.

CLOSED FOR 2026.

This is the official post for personal statement (PS) editing as described in this year's announcement. Please be familiar with the stipulations described in that post. This opportunity is open to the community for the first 80 uploads.

You may upload your statements to the anonymous Dropbox link here: https://www.dropbox.com/request/ke9eh3h0469cj0add20x

No one else can see your statement in the Dropbox, only the reviewers. Submit a WORD FILE (.doc or .docx, not PDF). PDFs will not be read, reviewed, or edited; similarly, Google Docs will not be accessed. You can de-identify your PS, but you'll need to include your Reddit username and an email at the end of the personal statement to return it to you. Last year, seven statements could not be returned because I didn't have the information needed to return them.

Please follow this naming convention for your file so we can keep our notes organized:

>Year_Month_Day_RedditUserName_DentalPS

FAQs:

  1. When will you get my statement back to me? We all work full-time. There is no official timeline for our responses. Each statement will be reviewed by a single editor, and our hours will differ. Some of us are in dental school; some of us work full-time. You should get your statement back within a reasonable timeframe, either during the week of submission or the week after. If it takes longer, I'm sorry, but this is a free service to eighty people.
  2. How will you review my statement? A combination of approaches. Because there are five different editors you could receive edits from, you may see a variety of editing techniques. Expect to see Word comments (many fail to notice these comments, so look for them), inline edits, and assessments via a rubric. The rubric will allow us to qualitatively rank your statement to impress upon you different aspects that need work.
  3. Can I submit an incomplete statement and/or resubmit? Unlike previous years, I'd rather you didn't. We're only editing 80 statements and taking one of those slots for an incomplete statement feels unfair.
  4. Why should I care what you think? That's the best part: you don't have to. We may be at odds with other advice you've gotten. It's up to you to decide what to submit. Each editor has been accepted to dental school at some point, so we know what has worked for us. We will do our best to offer valuable and constructive feedback.
  5. Are you going to steal my PS for yourself? It seems like a joke of a question, but I received it a handful of times over the past years. We're all accepted to a dental school or dental students; we don't need help getting in. Additionally, any well-written personal statement should be nearly impossible to apply to another individual. That's why they're personal.
  6. What if I'm later than the first 80 statements? I'm very sorry, we will not review your statement for free. Just because you manage to upload a statement into the dropbox doesn't mean you're within the first 80. I'll shut it down as fast as I possibly can after 80 statements are uploaded, but the process isn't automated and you guys are freakin' fast, man.

Edit 1, May 8th, 11:18 am EDT: Currently at 60 submissions. 75% of the way there...

Edit 2, May 8th, 12:04 pm EDT: I'm about to shut it down. We've hit 80 but I often can't stop myself from being a little generous and letting a couple extra slip in. Submit literally right now if you want to try to make it...!

Edit 3, May 8th, 1:40 pm EDT: Only 3 more to 100. I'll let those through and then shut it down. When that edit comes through and it says you can't submit, then you'll know.

Edit 4, May 8th, 2:30 pm EDT: I let it stay open for five hours. Submissions for 2026 are now CLOSED. We will work on getting back these statements ASAP, but I'll be honest and say it could be mid-to-late May before they come back. Please exercise patience, and when you see someone being kinda unchill about it, remind them to be chill for me.

Edit 5, May 8th, 2:45 pm EDT: I'm going through the files and deleting duplicates and finding those without names.

  • 5.1. For those who uploaded two files, I am deleting the first file and keeping the more recent file. Without fail, that's what I'm doing. I'm not opening the file to see the difference: I am only deleting the first file. Them's the breaks.
  • 5.2. Supreme, ultimate shame to those who have uploaded statements I can't return. If you uploaded your statement as "Anon" and it was totally anonymous, absolutely shame on you. I hope you read the RC passages of the DAT more thoroughly than the instructions I took time to write. If your name is Yousef Aljuneidi, Asma Arshad, or Alaa Shkoukani, message me. If you're the anonymous submission, you have lost your chance. I wag my finger at you.

As seen each year, we have a huge influx of users asking for personal statement editing from our community. The mod team doesn't have an issue with this, except that it causes a lot of bloat. This megathread will be the place to request editing from your community during the 2026-2027 cycle. A few points:

  1. No charging for this service or promoting such things on this subreddit. This is a bannable offense.
  2. There is no guarantee someone will edit your statement. This is a community-provided service by random other Redditors.
  3. Turn on your notifications for this thread so that you will be alerted with new commenters.
  4. If you have your statement edited, I would like to ask you the usual courtesy of editing a peer's statement, too. Return the favor!
  5. On that same note: The subreddit will accept personal statements on Friday, May 8th, 2026. Please refer to the announcement thread.

Good luck, everyone.

Hi all,

For the fifth straight year, r/predental will offer personal statement (PS) review and editing. Like last year, a group of five of our members will offer suggestions or edits to the personal statements you upload to a private Dropbox: it's not just me this time. Each member has been accepted to a dental school or is a current dental student.

Like last year, the current goal is to have only a single set of eyes per personal statement. Just like last year, my team wasn't certain we could do it again. As I've said before, reviewing statements takes an incredible amount of time and effort. Last year, it took (on average) 30 minutes per statement, and I did seventy (!!!) total while working full-time. This service is free, but we can't offer it forever.

This review and editing period will open on Friday, May 8th. This post is your alert to submit your PS in time. HOWEVER: ONLY A TOTAL OF 80 STATEMENTS WILL BE EDITED THIS YEAR. Again, sorry for the cap, but we figured having eighty total rather than zero was better. Last year, it took about 6 hours to shut down the Dropbox... so plan wisely.

I will post the official review and editing thread on Friday at an undisclosed time, but you'll need to submit a Word document (.doc or .docx, not .pdf, etc.) to Dropbox. We don't want to use Google Docs because it's harder to de-identify all parties' identities. We are willing to look at snippets (e.g., not a complete PS), but there is no guarantee we will review your statement twice, so submit it thoughtfully. Honestly, we probably won't review it twice, so if you submit a partial statement, you're denying someone with a full statement their chance.

Please don't make me repeatedly clarify the points above.

Tl;dr:

  • The Dropbox opens Friday at an undisclosed time.
  • Only one editor will edit each statement.
  • Only 80 statements will be edited. When we reach 80, the Dropbox will be closed. Yes, I'm serious. No, we don't care that you are the person who slept in or forgot.
  • You must submit a Word doc containing your information as described in Friday's thread. If you don't provide an email and Reddit username, we will skip your statement, I guarantee it.

Thanks, everyone! Best of luck.

EARLY NOTE: YOU'LL NEED TO SUBMIT YOUR REDDIT USERNAME AND AN EMAIL SO THE STATEMENT CAN BE RETURNED TO YOU. I don't care whether you use burners for these things, but if you don't include them, I won't be able to return your edits.
