I’m a 28-year-old professional based in India, currently working as a Business Banking Relationship Manager at a leading private bank. My role is primarily sales-driven, focused on structuring and disbursing working capital loans to MSMEs, with deal sizes of 50 Mn INR (AUD 730,000–750,000) and above.
My educational background includes a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering, followed by an MBA in Marketing and IT from a new IIM. I have three years of total work experience — one year in product management at Times Internet, where I worked on building an aptitude assessment product end-to-end, and two years in business banking at ICICI Bank.
I am seriously exploring a move to Australia.
My primary driver is health — I have dust and pollen allergies that trigger asthma, causing recurring episodes of wheezing and breathlessness. Urban air quality in India has been a persistent problem for me, and I genuinely believe relocating to a cleaner environment would make a significant difference to my quality of life. My sister is already settled in Australia, so I would have a support system in place for accommodation and the initial transition period.
That said, I’m currently earning 2 Mn INR (Based on PPP (Purchasing Power Parity), 2 Mn INR is roughly equivalent to AUD 70,000–80,000 in Australian living standards) and I’m realistic about the fact that I’d be rebuilding my career from the ground up. I’m at a crossroads and would really appreciate perspectives from people who have been through something similar.
My Questions:
- For someone with my profile — IIM MBA, banking sales, and product management experience — how transferable are these skills to the Australian job market, and what roles should I realistically be targeting?
- What is the most practical visa route for me: a direct skilled worker visa, an employer-sponsored visa, or a student visa followed by a work visa? What are the trade-offs of each?
- If a study visa (I personally am NOT inclined towards study visa) is the recommended path, which courses or certifications would add the most value to my profile and improve my employability in Australia?
- Has anyone here migrated to Australia on a work visa directly from a similar background? I think that may be the most efficient route for me, and I’d love to hear firsthand experiences.
