The past year, I began reading The Queen's Thief by Megan Whalen Turner, I stopped after book 3 because honestly I didn't want to finish the series, I didn't want to say goodbye to Gen, these books marked me in flesh that I just didn't want to finish them.
This year, I decided that the best way to honor this magnificent work and its author was to finish it all the way through. I accomplished my task and now I'm gonna need many months of intensive therapy for overcoming my grief. However, I also want your best recommendations for immersing myself in a new world that feels deep, with characters who truly feel like human beings, with all their complexity and nuance
What I'm looking for is:
- Book series! I don't really like standalones, I love following characters across multiple books until I start to see them as my closest friends.
- my favorite genres are Fantasy and Sci-fi, I don't like books with complex prose since English is not my first Language, I tried to read The Lymond Chronicles and Kushiel's Legacy but as I read my brain was melting.
- I love complex world building but what I love the most are characters with so many layers and nuances that they feel truly alive. Eugenides is a perfect example of this, he was a spoiled brat, an asshole, a brilliant strategist, a dramatic mess with emotional issues, a loyal and loving friend, and at the same time often a very cruel person, among countless other facets. And on top of that, he was incredibly funny.
- And finally, I’m looking for a series with a slow-burn, secondary romance, something subtle and well developed. I don’t like when fantasy books revolve entirely around romance, sidelining character development and worldbuilding. I prefer romance to be just one element of the story, not the driving force.
Thank you so much in advance, guys! You’ve given me amazing recommendations in the past, so I’m really excited to hear your suggestions.
