Bed bugs and electronics
I was just wondering whether bed bugs get into electronics, and if so, how frequently. One of the things I find commonly is websites online saying that in hotel rooms, bed bugs may hide in bedside alarm clocks. Yet other places will say that bed bugs don’t like electronics (then why would they live in alarm clocks?).
So I had been in a hotel room with my phone and my laptop on the bed while I was out of the room or sleeping for 3 days before bed bugs were found. That phone was in a ziplock bag for 2 months with nothing (no eggs hatched). I think it would be hard for a live bug to get inside a phone that is otherwise highly water resistant (Apple iPhone with a waterproof rating of up to 30 minutes and up to a depth of 6 meters).
The laptop has also been in a ziplock bag except for a short time I was actively backing it up to an external drive and I was watching it the whole time. However, laptops have enough space for bed bugs to crawl in
How likely is there a bed bug in either? Because of the batteries in the devices, I can’t heat the devices to a high enough temperature to kill bed bugs (I think the threshold for the batteries in terms of safe storage is 113F, so heat treatment is not a viable option).
I personally don’t want to use chemical treatment on devices I touch.
I suppose the question is, is there a safe threshold that doesn’t involve sealing the devices for 18 months? And I suppose the answer may be different for phones that are waterproof and laptops.
Thanks in advance.
