I’ll start with context. I’ve lived in Southeast Ohio my entire life, and in 2020, me and my family moved out into this set of woods (we don’t even have cell service). The only ISP we have out here offers a maximum of 3mb/s down, and 1mb/s up. It’s just simply not fast enough for the entire household’s bandwidth usage.
I’m a gamer, i play on pc, i like to edit youtube videos and what not. My biggest problem is the packet loss and ping jitter. i can’t get through a day without having 80% of it be spent getting frustrated with the internet literally not working, sometimes for hours on end. I’ve genuinely began buying physical media again because of how unreliable my internet can be, though i also do like having physical copies of things more anyway.
I ordered Starlink on the 29th, mainly because of their promotion they’re doing with the $0 hardware fee. It’s also cheaper than what i’m paying currently with GloFiber (mind you, they still run DSL to my house, not fiber).
The obstruction percentage i got (with the spot i took the photos), was 1.3% as well (i intend to mount it on a pole when it arrives as well, so hopefully getting another 15 feet up helps that number drop).
So my question for you guys, especially for anybody that’s in a similar situation as me, if Starlink will, at the very least, be more consistent bandwidth wise? I know the download speeds are going to be night and day, i went ahead and got the 200Mb/s plan with SL, but the ping/obstructions is my main concern. The last time i tried satellite internet was with DishNet back in 2014, maybe that’s why i have so much doubt in my mind lol.
If we can’t get it to work, we have the whole 30 days to return it, but i figured i’d get some opinions from other users while i wait for the dish to arrive. It was Worth the $21 delivery fee to try something, i just want away from my current situation.
