I went down a rabbit hole recently trying to understand why I can barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday… but I can still sing every word to songs I heard as a kid.

Turns out, our memory isn’t designed to keep everything. It prioritizes emotion, identity, repetition, and experiences that felt meaningful during childhood, while quietly deleting a lot of the random daily stuff we think should matter.

It completely changed how I look at “forgetfulness.” Maybe our brains aren’t failing us — maybe they’re filtering exactly how they were built to.

So I decided that other people might be curious about that as well and made a short video breaking down the psychology + neuroscience behind it in a simple way. Curious if anyone else has noticed this about themselves too.
