Emailing potential PhD supervisors

Planning to pursue a PhD in Australia (engineering/cs). I just emailed a supervisor and super anxious rn. How long did you have to wait before you got a response from a supervisor? And how long did you wait before you decided they were never going to reply? I know it varies person to person but please share your experiences.

Love weightlifting, love eating too but lately losing interest in the eating part

Hi all! I, 23F, came across this sub and find it relatable as I weightlift 5 times a week and maintain a pretty normal diet.

For context, since the past 3 years, I genuinely enjoy lifting and spending my time at the gym. For diet, I don't really track anything seriously but I tend to keep protein ratio high and carb lower than my usual amount (south asian diet is very carb heavy due to rice). And i LOVE eating. Im always hungry for anything meaty and look forward to every meal.

But recently, i've been feeling different. I don't look forward to eating anymore. My stomach rumbles with hunger and i have to force myself get to the kitchen. I dont loathe it but it just feels tiresome. I still love lifting and gaining muscles tho. I dont think its an ed because i've never had a bad relationship with food.

Has anyone experienced this? Losing interest all of a sudden for no reason?

So I'm very interested in applied AI research, in a specific field. I really wanna do a PhD and I've done my homework of shortlisting potential supervisors from the US, UK, and Australia. Even drafted some sample research proposals. Haven't contacted any yet due to my hesitation for various reasons:

- I only have a bachelor's degree with thesis

- All 5 Q1 publications have me as the second author, although the work was equally contributed.

- Visa rejection fears as I have no home ties: grew up abroad in the Middle East, did my bachelors in my home country (South Asia) then came back to the ME now working in AI product dev

Why did I even form the THOUGHT of applying with these cons? Firstly, because I tried corporate life and research keeps pulling me back. Secondly, some merits of my profile, I feel, should give me a chance:

- 1 year of RA & TA experience back in my home country

- working again as a parttime RA here with a local university beside my 9-5 dev job (i couldnt stop myself from contacting the professors here lol)

- also among the top 5% graduate of my undergraduate year

- and the fact that i do have publications under my name with 20+ citations

This post is more of a vent but i do appreciate advice. What do I do? Go back to my home country and pursue a thesis masters for better chances (for reference, ME does not really welcome immigrants for postgrad)? Stay back there to improve visa chances? Should I look for other countries where visa regulations aren't so tough? After PhD, my first priority is to come back to the ME or search for better opportunities elsewhere. I absolutely do not want to go back to my home country because there's nothing for me there. No family, no assets, nothing.

I hate being stuck in corporate. I'm still working on 2 ongoing papers that will specifically have me as first author, so that's the only thing keeping me going. I'm scared of going ahead with the whole application process with this profile just to find out it is not enough. am i being a coward?
