Hey all, some PSA for people who are considering using landscaping fabric. Don't. Just don't.
I have been commenting on this sub here there, in various degrees of anger regarding this vile product. I'm no landscraper by any means. I'm just a person who is trying to make their yard nice and maybe grow some veggie on the side. The previous owners of our house, may they stub their toes in all corners, were doing extensive renovations and while the yard was all dug up, they went ahead and covered everything in devil's revenge.
Please, to anyone who isn't a hater, consider that in a years time nature will stand undefeated and it will be you sweating and swearing trying to either weed it or get rid of it. It's not a weed barrier. It's not your friend. It doesn't make things look tidier. Plants couldn't care less about this microplastic contaminant. You want to separate gravel? Sure, then dig it DEEP. Otherwise you are in for a lot of dissapointment down the road or the next owners wishing you endless hiccups until they get rid of it.
Just please don't use it. For non-believers are some photos of how it doesn't separate anything, how roots just grow through. So you have to dig through all the gravel anyway to weed it. Except around the foundation, which has about 1,5-2 metres of gravel deep column that is separated from the soil with it.
Don't use this if possible. Everyone will love you a bit more down the road.
