I’ve taken a risk. Picked up a 2015 Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI (manual) with just over 220k miles and wondering what people think / what to look out for. I don’t want to be pumping money into it either just keep it running well and to give me my moneys worth.
It’s mainly going to be used as a commuter — about 20 mins each way on the motorway to the train station, so fairly easy driving just wanted a cheap runner with hopefully reliability
So far it:
- Starts well
- Idles smooth
- Pulls fine with no obvious power issues
- No smoke
- No coolant or oil leaks that I can see
Work already done before I bought it:
- Turbo replaced
- Clutch done
- EGR new
- Passed MOT (1year)
-DPF sensor mapped out
Big reason I bought it as major work been done (however limited paper work to show for it) luckily I kinda knew the seller so trusted his word and can see the new parts.
I’ve just done an air filter and planning fuel filter + general service next shortly as limited paper work
Seller mentioned timing belt and water pump done at 172k so about 45k miles ago.
I’ve never had such a high mileage car before however it’s prestine you can tell it’s really been looked after. Drives so so smooth.
Main questions:
- Should I get the belts/water pump done again?
- Anything common to watch for on the 1.6 TDI at this mileage?
-Any weak points I should keep an eye on (injectors, DPF, etc)?
- Would you trust it for daily motorway commuting?
-Can I expect a good run out of it for a few years? I will probably do 5k a year miles.
Cheers 👍
