How actually essential is the recommended equipment

Hi all,

Got my first 70.3 race in 4 weeks and I’ve never worn a tri suit or cycling shoes. I typically just train in tshirt, shorts and trainers.

I have previously done an Olympic distance triathlon in which I swam in my wetsuit (only wearing underwear underneath) and completed the rest in tshirt and shorts. My bike also has caged pedals. I plan on following this tactic again for my 70.3 in 4 weeks.

So my question is, can I get away doing my Ironman 70.3 with this equipment or do I need a tri suit, clip shoes etc.

Also do I need to bring an inner tube and bike repair kit, if so where do you keep it whilst racing?

Flu during peak training week, 4 weeks out of 70.3

Hi everyone,

I hope all is well. I have came down with the flu this week, and this is the beginning of my peak weak and my plan was to do my longest cycle this week and my longest brick next week. I’m unwell with the flu and therefore I’ve missed this week of training and I’m 4 weeks out from my first 70.3

I’ll hold myself accountable, I’ve only been training 15/16 weeks on a 20 week plan and I’ve missed a few sessions along the way but this is my first full week I’ve missed due to being ill. If it was only this week I missed and not the few sessions along the way and i had committed to my goal of weight loss, I’d be in a better head space but I’m just currently more frustrated.

I am not necessarily seeking reassurance but just advice as to how to bounce back in the next weeks coming. Many thanks
