I'm a rising freshman to college and I'm doing a combined program where CS and CE are combined into one undergraduate major. I'm looking to upgrade from my old hardware. My current laptop is a 4 year old m2 8gb 256gb. Can someone recommend me better hardware? I'm not sure if I should get a specific amount of RAM or processing power considering that CSE may require CAD and other development software. It'd be preferable if I stick to apple for carrying over my information, but I'm open to anything.

Also, on a desktop, would 32GB be enough? I have a desktop tower, but I'm not sure if I'll take it with me my first year.
