We got gifted this bottle of 12 year old scotch, would you say this is "too good" to use in cocktails?
My father was recently gifted this bottle of Macallan 12 year single malt scotch, specifically the bottling that was rested on oak sherry casks. However, since he doesn't like whiskey of any variety, he told me I was welcome to have it. Now I have a bottle thats ordinarily out of my budget, and I was wondering what I should do with it.
I don't have much of a palate for neat spirits, or I'd just enjoy the scotch on its own, but I do really enjoy cocktails. However, I'm well aware that a lot of people say that premium spirits are largely wasted in mixed drinks, and you should stick to the mid-grade stuff when making a cocktail.
What say you fine folks? Would you cringe if you saw me add this to a cocktail, or am I clear to get mixing? Should I just stick to old fashioneds and other spirit-forward drinks so I don't bury the flavor?
Also, if your answer is that its fine, I'm open to recomendations for cocktails to use it in, as it doesn't seem to be all that common of an ingredient when compared to, say, bourbon.
