Building a 2.5D game. how do you nail the isometric visual style before writing renderer code?
Hey everyone, I'm a beginner working on a browser-based 2.5D game inspired by games like Hades 2. The gameplay is done but I'm now trying to figure out the visual side.
My main questions:
Art style:
- What's the best way to achieve a 2.5D isometric look as a beginner
- Should I be using a dedicated tool to design maps/environments before touching the game engine?
Animation:
- I want characters and objects to have detailed animations. What tools do beginners use for 2D/2.5D game animation?
- Is there a recommended workflow for going from sketch → asset → animated in-game?
Platform:
- The game runs in the browser. What engines/frameworks handle 2.5D isometric style well for web?
- Is Phaser 3 a good choice long term for this style or should I be looking elsewhere?
I'm very early in the visual development stage and just want to make sure I'm building on the right foundation before I go too deep.
Any advice appreciated!
