shipped this to play store yesterday. video shows it in action. worked on it for about half a year.
it's like a swiss knife habit tracker. 4 core features: quests raids with a featured notice board, popular ones get promoted to this category, adventuring - pomodoro with a trail hike spin, and journaling you year view buffs and debuffs. All in one app.
Friends can see your progress, cheer you on. Nudge you if you are not taking responsibility.
daily quests, real habits
turn morning runs, journaling, study sessions, water intake, anything into quests with XP rewards. build streaks at your own pace. rest days are encouraged, not punished. it's the habit tracker that respects your downtime.
co-op raids with friends and strangers - private or open
this is the part i'm proudest of. team up with friends, fight bosses by checking off your real habits, and win together. accountability without the pressure. four raid types right now:
- boss raids: shared HP, every habit checkin chips it down. tiers at 90/70/40% party participation
- groves: plant a tree together (cherry, birch, or oak), it withers if the party slacks. survives on roughly 60% of raiders showing up
- tug-of-war: two parties competing, check-ins pull the rope
- endurance: pure endurance, last party standing wins
your party carries you, you carry them. that's the whole pitch.
adventuring pomodoro
focus sessions wrapped in a fantasy adventure. 25-minute focus + 5-minute rest by default, fully customizable. ambient soundscapes (rain, crickets, fireplace, ocean, forest) play in the background while your screen is locked. good for deep work or grinding through a long project.
mood journal
track your mood, sleep, and energy alongside your habits. locked behind face id or fingerprint for privacy.
why checkmate over other habit trackers:
- no HP loss when you miss a day
- rest days celebrated, not punished
- co-op multiplayer raids: accountability with friends or strangers
- privacy-first journal locked behind face id or fingerprint
- respects your time, no manipulative streak guilt
it's the habit RPG for people who want gamification without the anxiety. the RPG nerds, the burnt-out productivity hackers, and the friends-keep-each-other-going crews.
stack for the curious: expo sdk 55, supabase (postgres + realtime + auth), drizzle for local sqlite, reanimated 4 for animations.
specifically curious if:
- the raid pacing feels right to people who don't know me (i'm too close to it)
- the onboarding makes sense or if it dumps too much at once
- tutorial is enough
(disclosure: i'm the solo dev. play store link in a comment. ios in a few weeks.)
Hello, like most of ADHD programmers, I tried and failed to do the app for me, I have three different "Productivity App" started with a specific ADHD app, then I abandoned it, then I wanted to do one where it keeps giving you reminders and you and add 5 more minutes and the app give you reminder after reminder. Then mutated this into checkmate.
I added a bazillion features in it, kept reading and saving what people wanted. In the app you have multiple ways to stay productive, quests, simple habits with all the modifiers i could think off, raids where you can do them with friends or the community, you can cheer and nudge friends. characters and avatars, unlockables by leveling up, levels, milestones, share cards like in Pokemon, achievements, you can check out other users profiles if they have them on public, add them to friends. You can resolve quests when you feel like a habit is done. friend requests. push notifications, 4 type of themes, haptics, reduced motion dyslexia font, font size.
Quests can have tiers, common to legendary, will give more xp but burns embers. Friends see your progress and can cheer you from the notification center. Raids types, boss fight, plant a tree, tug of war, basic endurance. You can also challenge friends. I have a noticeboard where I have generated quests and raids, users can post in here and popular ones get promoted to featured so others can adopt them as well. Journal-ing with bio metric lock so you can lock that feature, cloud and phone storage, delete save to device, import. Year view, compact view. duffs and debuffs, mark special days, customize it.
Added tutorials, and used my cats as companions in the app.
Added adventuring, basically a room where you can have your friends and do together or sole, with built in sounds for relaxation, is based on exploring and going on a trail. And a lot more other features.
App gives reward xp if you take a break. no one can sustain work 100% of the time, brakes are important. App also gives you pep talk push notifications if you did not check in the app for a couple of days.
I did a website for it, an admin panel. All of this took me about half a year to iterate and iterate and iterate. I probably have some bugs left to iron out, I am a solo developer.
Now the problem is I have no idea how am I supposed to showcase all the features in the store, and how to promote it. It would be a great help for me if this community checks it out. I will not leave a play store link but I will leave the website I created for the app. The app has a 3 day grace free, no cards no gates, full access. After this is over you can have another month free for subscribing. There is also the option for lifetime pay, because not everything needs a subscription and I like apps that give this option as well. Subscription monthly or annual is for users that can sustain a solo developer.
Thank you for reading my ramble, any feedback is more the welcome:
