Avon's words to D'Angelo at his father's bedside are already perfect:

"You only got to fuck up once. Be a little slow, be a little late. Just once. And how you ain't gonna never be slow, never be late? You can't plan for no shit like this, man. It's life."

But would it make sense to give the question "And how you ain't gonna never be slow, never be late?" to D?

He's constantly questioning the deeper meanings underlying situations so the line would be natural for his character. And it would underscore the difference in G level between Avon and D.
