I recently learned about things like the freeze response (why your mind goes blank under stress), how trauma can cause body sensations (like feeling the ground shake), and simple coping skills like grounding techniques.
This information feels like gold. It helped me understand things I've been dealing with for years — social anxiety, blanking out during verbal arguments, trouble sleeping, even why I felt like the earth was shaking after an earthquake.
But I never learned any of this in school.
I learned trigonometry. I learned the periodic table. I learned history dates I've already forgotten. But no one ever taught me:
· Why my brain shuts down when someone yells at me
· How to recognize trauma in myself
· What to do when I'm having a panic attack
· How my nervous system works
· Basic emotional first aid
Isn't this stuff more immediately useful for surviving life than half of what we're forced to memorize?
