I recently had my name split on my Indian passport through BLS International in Canada. Like many of us, my passport originally had only a “Given Name” and no “Last Name.” For example, something like “John Smith” was listed entirely as a given name.
After the update, my passport now correctly shows:
- Given Name: John
- Family Name: Smith
I’m currently on a work permit and haven’t applied for a name correction on it yet. I was advised that my TRV is still valid, and that I can travel by carrying both my old and new passports along with my work permit.
My new passport was issued in Ottawa back in September 2025, and I have an upcoming flight in about 2 weeks.
Has anyone here been in a similar situation? Were there any issues during travel or re-entry to Canada? Did you eventually update your work permit, and if so, how was the process?
