Inherited a lovely garden last year with a corkscrew hazel in a woodland area (garden backs to woodland) and heavy clay. It's looking a bit stressed out, droopy leaves etc. Possibly some shoots from the base of the trunk (picture 4?) (are they water shoots? Pruning issue?)
My instinct is it needs water, so I gave it some last night (have been infrequently watering as it has been dry in the SE). However it is mature and I know it likes well-draining soil.
Any tips from Reddit? Thank you!
