So I’ve had this game on my waitlist for an incredibly long time and it finally was available for free on the ps marketplace. I had a rough last few weeks so I decided to power through it and just find some enjoyment in life.
Not a huge metroidvania guy but really had fun with this one. The design is absolutely amazing and the game play for the most part felt balanced, fair, fun and challenging in the right ways.
Until I got to Eviterno lol. I knew there would be a hell of a 2nd form waiting for me because that first form was super easy on my first go round. For the first 30-45 minutes I was super upset because Eviterno is so unlike any boss in the game. He’s insanely fast, seemingly has diverse attacks that track you exactly wherever you go, all his attacks have mega reach, and it seems impossible to cross him over.
After an hour of trial and era I realize I had to totally shift my thinking to beat him.
1- don’t think speed! think evasion/timing/patience/precision: pretty much all the bosses other than this one give you so much time to wallop on them, this is the only boss where that will get you killed immediately. If you try to hit him a bunch in a short period of time you’re bound to die fast. Take 1/2 hits at a time and then reset your positioning. Once you figure out his attack patterns and can consistently evade him he’s super predicable. The 2nd half of his 2nd half is still difficult but his patterns mostly stay the same. Take 1 or 2 hits at a time then continue to evade.
2- don’t rely on jumping too much. His attacks have big hit boxes that have good verticality. It’s not worth it to risk jumping prior to having a really firm understanding of all his attacks. I was using the big ball and chain weapon and jump a lot to remain nimble and that added to the pain earlier on.
3- don’t be afraid to use prayers: at the end of the battle especially some quick verses really helped me win. Only use them once you figure out his patterns though. There are short openings to be had once you learn his move set.
4- figure out his move set so you can use your health: it took me a while to figure out the openings but once I did it made recharging my health a lot easier
Bottom line the key for this one is pattern recognition. Don’t get frustrated as this bosses speed is like 50x faster than anything you’ve seen before or after. Focus on evasion and precision not offense and you’ll figure it out quickly. Yes the game has been out for a while but I’m just happy I got through him haha (and beat the game).
