No Pain, No Painting, Anna Rupptrecht, Trefl Prime Velvet Soft-Touch, 500 pcs, 2023

I can’t add much to the excellent review of this puzzle posted by u/DrunkenFist a few days ago:

I did experience the same piece quality issues as noted. I repaired a dozen or so pieces whose knobs were mushed (I hate when that happens— very painful, lol) or exhibited some ply separation. I always keep a tapered-tip bottle of superglue at hand when puzzling. Easy repairs. I also noted clumps of pieces still together, although I found this less an issue of incomplete cuts and more a case of the pieces holding firmly together. Separating them was straightforward.

The back of poster insert contains a brief note on the artist and the image:

About the Artist
Anna Rupprecht is a freelance illustrator based in Berlin. After spending her childhood reading tons of comics she finished her degree in Graphic Design and decided to become a self-deployed creative. She loves to work with bold colors, abstract fashion pieces and patterns and is known for her affinity for details. She also focuses on giving her artworks several layers and storylines to narrate a bigger picture.

The Story behind the Work
The artwork "No pain, No Painting" was developed around the turn of the year, reflecting on the ups and downs in this time period, and how overcoming hurdles can affect the way we look at life and what we can gain from it. It also focuses on the fact that many great artists have experienced a crisis or life's lows and have the chance to use it as a source of inspiration to make something unique and great out of it. If you haven't lived properly, you won't have anything to tell either.

Power Rangers - Good vs. Evil, Trefl, 1000 pcs, 2024

Although I purchased this puzzle new, four edge pieces in the upper-left corner have gone missing. I suspect they never made it into the box during manufacturing. I puzzled this image in one location across two days and I never do edges first. I checked the floor and the surfaces of my puzzle table, but no-go. Given the jigsaw cost next to nothing, I’m not overly concerned.

A fun and enjoyable image.

Great Chaos Below trial kicked my butt!

All those hours include a separate save slot I started and 99.9% completion, the exceptions being the two final (randomized) surface trials. What a game. This was my second play-through, for the Trophies, having originally beaten the game last September on Switch OG.

The Dream, Henri, Rousseau, Trefl, 200 pcs, 2024

I love these Trefl woodens. Priced right, varied subject matter, well made. Loose fit, but part and parcel with wooden puzzles in my experience. Whimsies included a leaf, tiger head, parrot, and apple. I was tickled that the meta cut-out was also an apple.

Rousseau is one of my favorite artists from this period and this painting is one of my faves of his. It would be sacrilegious to label it nsfw, so I’m not gonna. Let my reddit overloads purify one of the purest of images.

Undefeated Power Rangers, Trefl, 500 pcs, 2024

Bought this during a recent Trefl via Amazon sale for a mere $5 USD. I don’t have an opinion on the Power Ranger franchise, it being way, way after my time, but I do have a fondness for colorful, well conceived illustrations of people in tights.

I’m a fan of Trefl puzzles and I done all the types currently available. From the sublime Trefl Prime Velvet Soft-Touch, to regular Trefl Prime, to Trefl Wooden, to these red-labeled Trefls, all have been excellent experiences.

Good thickness, slightly smaller pieces, matte smooth finish, terrific reproduction, grid cut, no dust, very crumbly but movable via corners method. A small poster was included in the box.

The King! (NIB), Harv Gariety (design), springbok, 1000 pcs, 1985 DNF

So excited to find this puzzle new & sealed at a local antiques emporium. For a lousy ten bucks no less. I’m not a huge Elvis fan except for his earliest stuff, but the chance to have a new-in-box experience with a vintage springbox (via Hallmark) was too good to pass up.

The pieces were thick, slightly glossy, and randomly cut. The fit was insanely tight in a good way— rare for a random. The interlock was strong and the pieces had to be pushed firmly into place— think of somewhere between a Ravensburger and a Pintoo.

I did fine with the photo collage but that big, screened Elvis face, all black and white, did me in along with a plethora of solid black and lined black pieces. The puzzle lingered on my table until I decided to pack it away unfinished. One saving grace was that the tight fit allowed me to break the puzzle into distinct sections without disassembling the entire thing. Perfect should I ever acquire a masochistic streak and attempt to finish it.

I’m not a warmonger by any means (check out Washington DC for that), but as an inveterate plastic model builder when a kid this one rang some bells.

Random cut, no dust, crumbly, great reproduction, fun to work. I’m not a sky guy, but I powered through. You may note the missing piece on the left edge— it’s probably around here somewhere rather than missing from this sealed puzzle.
